Vera Wang was born in 1949 in New York to a family of Chinese immigrants. After graduating from the Chapin School and studying at the University of Paris, Wang graduated from the Sarah Lawrence School with an Art History degree.

After graduation, the designer became the youngest ever editor of the famous magazine Vogue. She worked there for over 17 years and then moved to Ralph Lauren for another two years.

She made the wedding gowns of such celebrities as Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne, Victoria Beckham, Ivanka Trump, and Alicia Keys.

A professional figure skater in her younger years, Wang also put a lot of effort into designing costumes for this sport. Her designs have been presented many times at the Olympic Games from 1992 till the present.

In 2006, Wang worked in cooperation with the Kohl's department store chain to present a less expensive line of ready-to-wear clothes under the "Simply Vera" brand.

In 2011, she also presented "White by Vera Wang" with more affordable prices for wedding gowns (up to 1500 USD) to allow more women to wear Vera Wang bridal fashion. In 2018, she was number 34 on the Forbes list of America's Richest Self-Made Women.
