Vera Wang was born in 1949 in New York in the family of chinese immigrants. After graduating from the Chapin School and studying at the Uniersity of Paris, Vera graduated from Sarah Lawrence School with the Art History Degree.
After graduation the designer got the job of an editor at the famous Vogue, which made her the youngest editor of the magazine. She worked there over 17 years and then moved to Ralph Lauren for another two years.
At the age of 40 Vera finally decided to become an independent fashion designer with the specialization on the wedding fashion and immediately became unbelievably successful.
She made the wedding gowns for such celebrities as Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne, Victoria Beckham, Ivanka Trump and Alicia Keys.
Being a professional figure skater in her young ages, Vera also put a lot of efforts in designing costumes for this sport. Her designs were many times presented at the Olympic Games from 1992 till nowadays.
In 2006 Vera made a cooperation with a chain of department stores Kohl’s in order to present a less expensive line of ready-to-wear clothes under the brand Simply Vera.
In 2011 she also presented „White by Vera Wang“ with more affordable prices for wedding gowns up to 1500 USD to let more women wear the bridal fashion from Vera Wang. In 2018 she got on the 34th place in the Forbes list of America's Richest Self-Made Women.
